I'd have never've said it was that long ago. Just shows you how time flies. I can remember watching a video of one of Prince's gigs when he did that particular song. I grew up hearing it, and loved it. Still do.

Well it seems to me to be about deciding to end a relationship with someone. The "purple" rain could refer to how "blue" he was feeling, but it's just a guess.

I took a look and there sure are lots of theories about the meaning. here's one:

Best Answer: if you haven't seen the movie, you need to see it, it's amazing. in the movie it explains this song. it was originally written about his father who (back in those times it wasn't ok to be bisexual) used to beat him till he thought he'd turn straight, it never worked, his father ended up giving up on the idea. princes' "purple rain" was his eyes being black n purple, and him crying.. tears (rain) he only wanted to see his father happy, he never meant to cause him any pain by being who he knew he was......hope this helped!!
