Re: Desert Island discs
Well what I love about him and people like him who are the way they achieve so much in the face of adversity..
Re: Desert Island discs
It's the same with most disabilities, T. I used to go the sports days of a special needs school, where every person had some disability to contend with. Their fierce desire not to be beaten by their deformities and whatever, was humbling. People who had no legs - they sat in wheelchairs and were dab hands at archery, tennis, table tennis and so on. People with no functioning arms played a type of football with their legs and heads. It was amazing what folk could do, and the pride on their faces when they went up to receive their trophies always made me cry.

Good entertainer, and I agree. He struggled against the odds but managed to get noticed for his talent, not his disability, but .... oh dear. Read this from the London Standard ..... It paints a somewhat different picture of the man to how his fans see him, and it's not pleasant.

Re: Desert Island discs
I disagree. He took it out of people and took pleasure in their discomfort. He also wasn't good to his wife and children, and made them struggle on benefits. I don't call that a good man, tbh, but I love his music!
Re: Desert Island discs
He had a tough upbringing and ...
His family must be feeling the benefits of royalties today..

Re: Desert Island discs
Well I don't know about that. He found himself a girlfriend that he lived with, so maybe SHE reaped any money that rolled in. His kids're grown up now anyway, but they speak quite bitterly of their father, which's sad.
