OK., well I just looked at the lyrics of the Mr. Kite song, and if you find them riveting, then fair enough. You might just as well listen to a town crier announcing the arrival of a fair .....

For the benefit of Mr. Kite
There will be a show tonight on trampoline
The Hendersons will all be there
Late of Pablo Fanques Fair-what a scene
Over men and horses hoops and garters
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world!
The celebrated Mr. K.
Performs his feat on Saturday at Bishops Gate
The Hendersons will dance and sing
As Mr. Kite fly's through the ring don't be late
Messrs. K and H. assure the public
Their production will be second to none
And of course Henry The Horse dances the waltz!
The band…

Well, obviously the band were incredibly popular, and people still flock to see Paul and Ringo.

Which I shall ignore ..... but whatever, I don't think I'm a huge fan. The thing is, the music was probably brilliant at the time, but it's much more sophisticated now. Paul's guitar playing isn't a patch on some of today's guitarists - but it was perfect for what he did. The same goes for Ringo.

No one has matched their creativity...
and there are too many 'studio effects' to enhance a band, persons sound....so there!

Think we'll agree to differ on that. I'm not saying that the Beatles were rubbish. They helped to shape the new way in which music was heading, but I think that their lyrics were a bit lame - or drug-induced, like I am the Walrus!!

I am he as you are he as you are me
And we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun
See how they fly
I'm crying
Sitting on a cornflake
Waiting for the van to come
Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man you've been a naughty boy
You let your face grow long
I am the eggman
They are the eggmen
I am the walrus
Goo goo g' joob
Mr. City policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky
See how they run
I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying, I'm crying
Yellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog's eye
Crabalocker fishwife
Pornographic priestess
Boy, you've been a naughty girl
You let your knickers down
I am the eggman
They are the eggmen
I am the walrus
Goo goo g' joob
Sitting in an English garden
Waiting for the sun
If…

Yes, and Paul's only just admitted that the drugs helped with quite a few of their songs. Him and John denied it for years. As you'll notice, "Lucy in the sky" appears in "I am the Walrus" as well. Paul says that John thought up the lyrics which were inspired by him reading Alice through the Looking Glass, not that it referred to LSD - but again, the Alice novels seem to be drug-induced fantasies, so maybe chemicals played a part in not just the Beatles lyrics, but those of other bands as well, including the Stones, the Who, Floyd and plenty of others. The latter's Saucerful of Secrets's said to allude to drugs, but only those who wrote the lyrics actually know.

I hate drug usage though,
you don't need to take drugs to be creative..in fact they slow people down..

From what I've been told, certain drugs can enhance a person's creative style. Personally, for those who have to find inspiration via that channel, I don't think they can be naturally gifted, but lots of bands indulged in stuff - and some still do. I think that perhaps the 60's, and to a certain extent, through into the 70's, could be classed as the psychedelic era, where that sort of behaviour was more tolerated than it is today. Although we have more substances to abuse, most people also understand the dangers of resorting to that kind of thing now - despite continuing to do it. Back in the day, I think folk tried stuff out of ignorance, and because it was seen as "hip".

Sativex can now be prescribed to make pain more tolerable. It's the first, and probably only, cannabis-based medicine to be prescribed in the UK.
