could you live here?

Post by pilvikki »

part of the village of Setenil de las Bodegas in spain has been built under cliffs that hang over the houses and streets. people have been living there for ever, yet I could possibly manage a brief, very brief visit. just looking at the pictures made me uncomfortable.

now, for some reason i'd not mind living inside a cliff, so I don't get what my logic is. just something about the stone hanging there so casually...

I can see what you mean. If the cliffs gave way or crumbled, there wouldn't be much left of what's been built beneath all the tonnage, so yes, it'd bother me a bit, and yet I've been in some caves which were used as homes, and thought they were lovely.

No, i couldn't. I'd walk round with a hard hat on all the time. Not my idea of an ideal home.

you can used to pretty much anything, but it sure would take me a very long time to stop looking up all the time.

and the hardhat... yep. even though I hate wearing them.

Quite a few people live in homes which've been hewn into rock, and no one seems to mind. I suppose you get used to it, just as you'd get used to living in one near the edge of a cliff.

There's a house a few miles from us which's half built of stone, and the other half goes back into a rock face.

Aww, they're cute, but they look more like ear muffs to keep the chill out.

I was thinking more on the lines of this, with the hard hat as well, in case part of the ceiling crumbled away!

definitely!

I also would have a problem living on the edge of a cliff, on a flood plain (done it), or next to a volcano.

and Iceland! forget it!

Absolutely. I wouldn't mind a cave house so much, but not one on the edge of a cliff!

It looks precarious but I suppose after a while you just get use to it..
