We see the humor in it, but there are people who respond so that guy keeps sending that message. I looked up the history and the first one I got was in 2018. They only wanted $300 back then. I guess hackers suffer from inflation too.
Heh, received something similar, nobody would care if any of that were true... The issue is that, they depend on mass spamming and that someone answer them... well, somebody thinks exploiting guilt of people is profitable and extort them...
I can see the logic behind the letter, but there are so many factual errors that it's hard to take it seriously. I have to wonder what kind of creep is sending that junk mail. It's so obviously fake. I can't see enough people paying to cover the cost of the mailing lists that the phisher must purchase on the Dark Web.
