marvellous day!

Post by pilvikki »

we went from the painful 95° down to 70 overnight and WOW! what a difference! i could breath again - and walk more than 20' without being exhausted!

tomorrow still around 75, so i'm thrilled!

A/C is a wonderful invention. However, when we have those 95°days it actually feels cold in the house, and the thermostat is set to 78°

i always tried to minimize the variation; but here the hydro is so sodding expensive that people mostly do without. i bought a unit, it sits in the attic...

Electric power is not all that expensive around here, but it can be substantial for people on a budget. I believe they adjust the rates downward during the summer months to help out folks with the costs.

The good news is all electric in France is generated by nuclear reactors.
The bad news is all electric in France is generated by nuclear reactors.

yeah, there are some 57 or so of the sodding plants, but there's also a lot of wind turbines and solar panels.

they both make plenty of sense as this is one of the windiest places going and also sunniest in europe they say. in fact, they ought to get of their butts and start utilizing both way more.

I believe I read that the EU wants to be 100% renewable powered by some not too distant date. 2030 I believe.

2030? then why the bh! are they building more of the cursed plants?

so, rummaging around, i found this article:

https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... innovation

not quite to the point, but interesting, i thought.

I think the EU plan is a little more aggressive and does not target only transitioning off nuclear energy. Some of the more wealthy countries should be able to do it, but there are a lot of small and poor economies in the EU as well. I'm not sure they would be able to meet the deadline.
