I find that word funny, and you're right, it's not one that you hear a lot, is it? Having said that, when spat out by an outraged northerner, it can come across as good as any expletive - better, in fact. I know an old boy who doesn't suffer fools gladly. If he doesn't like someone, he uses that word, and prefixes it with some animal, so a person could end up being called a goose, dog, cat and numerous other "turds". It sounds hilarious, but you also know he means what he says. : )
