Oh the humanity....the howling wind...

Archibald, the wind DOES howl, because it comes down the chimneys and whistles round the rooftop. You don't get so much of that where you live, because everything's more box-shaped - and minus the chimneys!

Of course! Wind gets everywhere, but we have large open fireplaces, and the wind literally whistles and howls down them when it blows a gale.

LOL, and I'm sure they did it in the 1800's! It never really goes out of fashion, except that people have to stick them in the toaster these days, because open fires're becoming a thing of the past. Having said that, two of my friends've had fireplaces put back in which'd been removed in favour of gas or electric, but seeing a nice roaring fire's unbeatable.

Well we use butter in our house, and it's handy to have in for certain cake/pastry making, or to plop over asparagus and so forth - oh, and crumpets! : )

Mind you, my OH was starting to question his cholesterol, despite having a "well man" exam which said he was fit and healthy, and so he asked me to buy a tub of that Benecol, which contains plant sterols and professes to reduce any cholesterol within 3-4 weeks. Not sure whether the claim's true, but the stuff's very nice and buttery tasting.
