I remember all of them too, but I preferred Tennessee Ernie Ford, although the newest version sounded almost the same.
Hard to believe that little guy had such a deep voice.

I think the Alberto Vazquez version is the best, albeit I was only familiar with Ernie Ford's version most of my life. The original Merle Travis version sounds pretty bad on YouTube. That's probably due to the fact it was not a studio recording and performed the way it was intended to be heard. It is indeed interesting to hear all three side by side.

Now, another posting. I think we can do this with other songs that we know well, but are not the original or the most popular version... In this case I don't know if the second version became more popular than the original, and the one I grew with was the translated one. Lyrics on the trnaslated one are mostly the same...

Once again the original version seems uninspiring compared to the later versions. I like the José José arrangement better than Barry White's. That's because I think songs should be sung and not spoken. LOL
