If you are adept at tuning a six string, then tuning a 12 stringer isn't that much more difficult. You need a good ear in both instances. It's a beautiful sound and worth any extra effort. I don't see much use for it in the world of rock music, but we would be minus one more beautiful sound if there were no 12 stringers around.
