While looking at those videos, I found this gem in the side panel. I used to watch the Steve Allen Show, but I don't recall ever seeing Frank Zappa on it as shown in this video. It's truly amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MewcnFl_6Y

We naturally change as we get older, but I'd never guess it was Frank Zappa in that video if I were not told so previously.

I'm wondering if he was serious about that cacophony or was he just pulling a prank to get the public exposure.

I've heard Frank Zappa compositions - who hasn't? - but as you might be able to tell music is not my specialty. Hot Rats never came to my attention on purpose but I may have listened to it unknowingly. Peaches En Regalia seems to be very representative of his style. I like it.

I had to look up the top works by Frank http://ultimateclassicrock.com/top-frank-zappa-songs/ in order to see what I remember. Valley Girl seems familiar, but that's about it. My memories of him begin with the revelation that he named his kids Moon Unit and Dweezle. I recall joking with my friends about it. The photograph on that web page is epic. That's how I remember Frank Zappa best. I think he was too advanced for my unrefined ears. Top Forty was my genre and I'm not sure Zappa's works were up there very often.
