Yes, of course. There are ups and downs in all families. Judging by what I read from the Wiki summary, Tolstoy was speaking about divorces with that comment. It's part of the secret code that all successful authors use. They know what the hell they are talking about, and it's up to the readers to guess.

My wife and my youngest daughter are Russian Literature fanatics. I think they both read everything by Tolstoy and all the other classics. To me it's like reading Dickens. I fall asleep during the descriptions given they are so long.

gorki used to be a favourite, but i've not read any of his in decades. i tired reading war and peace a while back, thought "reads like a romance novel", and that was it for me. i would like to take a run at tolstoy's kreutzensonat (sp), but i've not seen it around lately. for one, it's thin, lol! and secondly, i thought it had such a brilliant stoy line, so i'd like to know if i still think that

The Kreutzer Sonata is a novella by Leo Tolstoy, named after Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata. The novella was published in 1889, and was promptly censored by the Russian authorities.
It's all of 118 pages for the English edition. I've heard of Tolstoy and I've heard of Beethoven, but I've not heard of either work by them.
