Our ideas about death will have to change significantly before that brilliant idea takes hold. Unfortunately, a rethinking might be forced upon us sooner rather than later. There is only so much space we can devote to our ancestors.

The idea of microorganisms consuming bodies without the need for oxygen, thus reducing them to light, seems one of the "nicest" ways to dispose of the dead that I've read about in a long time.

Reducing the bodies to a liquid state sounded horrible when I first heard about it, because the idea was that the effluence'd be safe to run back into lakes and rivers. With a reaction caused by lye or chemicals, I don't see how this'd be safe at all, and I can visualise all sorts of health problems if this method was adopted. It sounds gross to me, but the above idea seems quite reasonable.
