jacket question

Post by pilvikki »

i used to watch Boston Legal', i think it was called and a thing baffled me, especially as it is the same in all courtroom appearances:

every time a guy stands up, he will button up his jacket.

why is that?

I don't know what they had in mind with that video, but he certainly looks better, more professional and credible, with the buttoned jacket.

Both of my grandfathers did the same thing. When they sat down, they would unbutton their coat, and button it back up again anytime they stood. Dad and my uncles did so when at other peoples houses, in meetings, or around strangers. And always if there was a lady present in the room.
I think it was just proper etiquette! Something we don't see much of today.
