crazy nepal earthquake

Post by pilvikki »

unreal what those things do and how it seems a given they strike places least able to handle them... usa and Israel are sending personnel and supplies, which are badly needed as the gov there seems quite stunned by the events and slow to react.

2500 dead and some 6000 injured. mt Everest climbers lost 18, and that seems bigger news than the other 2500... still, that must have been extra terrifying.

the name of the head of state is Koirala. I wonder how many times it's been pointed out to him that it means 'house of dog' in finland...? it's a common name there, while in finland it's a town hear Russian border.

Strong aftershocks were also reported yesterday (Sunday), but help's arriving as quickly as possible. The incident's now being classed not as a rescue mission but a relief one. The British Red Cross've been appealing for funds, along with UN agencies, and countries worldwide've been sending teams into remote areas to try and get help to those most in need of it. People're unable to go back safely into any homes remaining, so tents're being issued, and even patients in hospital've been moved outside in case the building collapses.

These tragedies bring it home to us how vulnerable people are in the wake of things like this.

the only problem with this new outdoor lifestyle has been that they now block all traffic and relief efforts even further.

and of course! the poor sods been doused with torrential rains.

do these things really have to drag with them all the horsemen of the apocalypse?

I know. The rain hasn't helped matters at all, and they think there're pockets of vulnerable people in desperate need of help, but reaching them's difficult. Rescue missions're being carried out for those stuck on Mount Everest, but with sliding ice and climbers still feeling continuous after-shocks, it's causing problems. The climbers've been without food for a while now, and daren't move in case there's an avalanche. Some scientists predicted this earthquake only recently, and were spot on as to where it'd happen. There's a likelihood of another one occurring. : (
