Web Cam Volcano Eruption

Is good to know that the active volcanoes are being watched constantly, so hat this kind of videos are not just easily reachable, but also part of a prevention scheme for the general population...

I can see the attraction to monitoring volcanic activity, but I wonder how practical it is. If you see an eruption on web cam, it's already too late. I don't see evacuation of a large population being possible with just a few minutes advance notice.

Seismographs're in use around the more active volcanoes to give early indication of possible eruptions. One could suddenly blow before evacuation was possible, but there's usually some sort of early warning with them, such as smoke becoming visible, in which case it'd be sensible to move.

A lot of smaller communities living on and around the volcanoes don't, though. When they live alongside a smoking one and their livelihoods rely on where they've grown up, it's probably a case of: "Well nothing's happened yet", so they take their chances.

Anyone who lives close to an active volcano is asking for trouble. Then again, there apparently are ample opportunities to take some spectacular pictures.
