This is the first time in memory that the little guys and not the corporate lobbyists won the day with a government agency. The FCC is a non-elected panel of people charged with regulating public communications. Their decision to classify the Internet as a common carrier and thus free it from manipulation by corporate and government interests is a major win for us grass roots users. Of course, it remains to be seen if this is a good thing or not. But the point is that the little guys can win if they stand up to be heard. The Federal Communications Commission approved the policy known as net neutrality by a 3-2 vote at its Thursday meeting, with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler saying the policy will ensure "that no one — whether government or corporate — should control free open access to the Internet."
