I've made three quilts from start to finish by myself. One of them had numerous 3-D appliques too.
Ironic too, I did them while living in a small apartment.
My quilting frame was suspended from the ceiling using four pulleys, and two bracer bars with rubber tips to hold it stead between the walls when I lowered it to do some work.
Never did another quilt after I moved out of the apartment.
Had two kids, and two jobs, so no time for much of anything except work.

It seems like my wife's mom and her mom were adept at quilting. They didn't make very many but I do recall seeing a work in progress out on an Iowa farm one time. Nothing that I remember was hanging from the ceilings or on the walls. Then again, these were women not familiar with mechanics. They obviously did things the hard way. LOL

My grandmother, along with a group of about 5 other ladies, all did quilting in her basement.
Now they didn't make the quilts face, they only did the quilting part.
They could usually get a quilt done in two or three sessions.
Most of what they did ended up at the church bazaars for sale, unless they were for a private customer.
Their quilting frame just sat on sawhorses, and they took it up and put it away after each session.
