Re: Point of view
I am all for "freedom of speech" as long as those who practice it are aware that with "rights" come responsibilities and consequences. For example, it's very tiresome, in discussion groups, when somebody trolls out something "offensive" to a majority of the readers in t...

Re: Fake pregnancies
I'm so happy that you had positive experiences with childbirth, Icey. Fortunately for me, I did, too. However, I can see why some women would NOT want to experience it. Even in this day and age, women still DIE during the procedure. However a woman decides to have her children (or even if she choose...

Re: Feeling like a POS...
Crestor (and many of the other statin drugs) are guilty of many surgical complications, in my opinion (WHAT surgery DOESN'T cause *some* kind of muscle injury, and if one is taking a med whose most common side effect is muscle pain and damage, what then?), and I don't understand why these surgeons d...

Re: toothache...
Long-term grinding can cause small cracks in the tooth enamel, leaving the tooth far more vulnerable to decay and infection, so yes, I imagine that it can directly be responsible for eventual toothaches.

Re: Feeling like a POS...
And you are right, Dennis, about arrogant Docs. There are many who completely go ballistic if a nurse questions an order. One of the most frequent lines I've heard from some of these a**holes is "and WHAT medical school did YOU graduate from, Missy?" Ummmm...one does not *need* to be a med...

Re: Feeling like a POS...
Update on said patient whose condition bothered me so much during that nightmare of a night...the Doc WAS wrong and I was right (no surprise there, considering the fact that we nurses spend far more time with our patients than ANY of these Docs do!). Apparently, while I was incapable of convincing t...

Re: Fake pregnancies
Icey, did this article state *which* American actresses have engaged in such subterfuge? Unless the source is actually willing to name names and cite where they managed to find "evidence" of such doings, I'd be questioning its credibility. In this day and age, we have many actresses who ch...

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Forty years ago today, the ship went down. Yes, folks, shipping on America's inland seas (aka, the Great Lakes), while perhaps, not *quite* so dangerous as it is on the open ocean, is NOT for sissies! I've always loved this song, but listening to the lyrics while seeing footage of the ship, along wi...
Feet!
Nope, I'm NOT diabetic! Still, even with that in mind, I suppose that that simple fact doesn't "excuse" me from inspecting my feet on a daily basis, given my extensive network of varicose veins (undoubtedly, the result of YEARS spent on my feet, not to mention the excess pounds I've been c...
Re: OMG...
Update on this: the bitch in question messaged my brother a few days following that suicide threat, acting as if nothing had ever happened. Just a post of, "hey, how are you doing and what's going on?" sort of thing. She made no mention of the previous messages she had sent him, and offere...

Re: toothache...
Do you not have access to an oral surgeon where you are? I'd rather go to one of those than to a dentist for an extraction, especially if more than one tooth is involved. I very much appreciated the IV sedation and the use of the nitrous oxide when I had my last extractions done (that abscess I ment...

Re: Maria Grigorievna Rasputin
Fascinating character! Yes, he WAS a drunk who engaged in all kinds of debauchery. But his healing "powers" over the little tsarevich, Alexei, are well-documented, although never fully explained. Whatever his faults, he did not, in any way, deserve the miserable end that he received at the...

Re: Transgender nurses...
And yes, I, too, have gotta wonder what the preoccupation is with the gender preference, genitalia and religion of caregivers around here. Honestly? These people should be freaking grateful to have access to well-trained caregivers, period. So many people in the world don't *have* that luxury...

Re: Transgender nurses...
My bad...it's the hijab that our hospitalist wears, NOT a burka. Yes, we can see her face. I must have been brain-dead last night :-(

Re: Feeling like a POS...
A bit better today, thanks. The fever is down, but I've still got a killer headache, the body aches, and it feels as though somebody is sitting on my freaking chest. But, thank goodness, the sore throat is gone, so it's not killing me to drink fluids today ;-)

Re: Transgender nurses...
We actually *have* patients who object to seeing our hospitalist, who is from Pakistan and who wears a burka. Some of these folks take this "war on terror" all too seriously and object to seeing ANYONE of the Muslim persuasion! Those who demand to see an "American" doc are usuall...

Feeling like a POS...
Yes, I actually CALLED IN SICK tonight! Can you believe it? I still can't...I NEVER call off, but I've managed to catch SOME kind of creeping crud from a co-worker over the past weekend (said co-worker has called off for the past TWO nights in a row!), and I've got a splitting headache, body aches, ...

Re: OMG -- again!
I might also add, that if you're sick enough to be in the freaking hospital, then you should ALSO be too freaking sick to CARE what type of genitalia the nurse caring for you might have...again, as long as his/her behavior towards you is professional and the care rendered has been good. Gawd, how I ...

Transgender nurses...
OMG! Am following a post in one of my nurse Facebook groups where one of my so-called colleagues is insisting that patients have the right to ”full disclosure" re: the gender of the nurse caring for them (this, in response to a post re: transgender nurses). WTF??? Sorry to burst this person's b...

Re: toothache...
My current dentist, too, always has somebody on call for emergencies. Didn't find him until I had a front tooth break on the job on a Sunday night. Was in his office the following morning, the tooth was repaired, and that was when I cut my former dentist loose!
