Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

I have mixed feelings about hospice. They are a blessing in many ways and provide services and advice we never thought of on our own. Then again, there is the reason why they are there in the first place. Not a good thought. It's great news to read that you are doing well today. I'm thinking all the...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

Judging by what you describe, hospice is doing for you about the same that they were doing for my mom. They literally were providing too much service for mom's taste, but eventually she got used to all the attention. One of the cool services mom had was music. A lady with a keyboard came by once a w...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

I don't think it would be a big problem cleaning out the Silver Yogi, at least not in theory. You make a good point in noting that touching it might upset its equilibrium. If that happens, it might be time for you to allow Debi to show you how to use her smartphone to communicate with the outside wo...

Re: They can't put a good man down - but they had a damn good try!

I sense that overall your health is improving, albeit not in the fashion you would like. I had prostate problems and nearly died from neglecting it. My PSA score was over 5.0 before I went to see a urologist. At the moment I'm relatively healthy and will be going for my annual checkup this coming We...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

Brown sticky dust inside the Silver Yogi??? I was under the impression that your office was climate controlled and that you found a way to eliminate the smog. I didn't think you could make an actual Clean Room up there, but I am somewhat surprised that the tower computer is accumulating so much dust...

Scott Adams @ScottAdamsSays I'm feeling AI will be less like a full transformation of civilization and more like the invention of the laser printer. AI has not made a joke or written a song or made a movie I care to consume. And a judge ruled you can't copyright AI work. When AI is used, it seems to...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

You did mention a time or two how complicated your LAN and computer layout was. My understanding is that it had to be that way because you were using multiple computers for various tasks. As a stand alone unit, the Silver Yogi does not need a KVM and I can't imagine what you could do to make it nece...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

The hospice people mom had did not do anything heroic, but they didn't cut out any drugs she was already taking. In her case that was enough. I'm glad you were able to find help moving the computer. It was a laudable goal making it up to your office every day, but doing that just to post a few words...

Re: Joke of the Day

Capitalism is a dual edged sword. It offers an environment for competition and growth in business enterprises. This tends to cull out the worst of them and gives incentives to improve things so that profits can be maximized. All that is fine and good in our system of governance, if you can afford it...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

I consider it my great good fortune to have you post anything at all in these forums. Truly I am grateful for the efforts you put forth under the most stressful circumstances. It is distressing to know that hospice is now necessary. I don't know how things are done in Tennessee, but the hospice peop...

Re: Egyptian Concrete

My uncle was a barber and he shaved people with mug soap and a straight razor. I watched him do it a few times and was duly impressed that such a thing could be done without mutilating one's face. The most amazing part of that process was stropping the blade on a leather strip. Why rubbing steel aga...

Re: Egyptian Concrete

I guess you and I had more than a few similar experiences. I recall those razor blade sharpeners but never tried to get one. I used an electric shaver for all my shaves, except for the first few times when I tried one of those Gillette double edge razors. I didn't like the idea of something that sha...

Re: Joke of the Day

You could be right about the width of the easement out front, but a 50 foot wide strip in the back would take up half the yard space in most cases. They only need 10 feet do do utility work regardless. I've not looked at my survey lately but I recall the easement being plotted therein. I really don'...

Oh my. I am deeply concerned about your well being, Gary. I suppose we all know what is the inevitable outcome, but I also realize it's nothing any of us look forward to. Over the years I've met and talked to people with various amounts of damage to their body's vital organs and it always amazed me ...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

The doctor I saw about my GORD problem gave me a prescription for 60mg of Nexium. It could not be purchased without a script. The stuff on the store shelves is only 20mg, and that is what I am taking these days. The higher dosage was necessary at the time to allow the damage in the esophagus to heal...

Re: Joke of the Day

I had similar experiences with the city. There was in fact an easement along the curb of my old house and I had to sign an agreement to allow access to that land. But, access was all that was covered. Anything happening on that land was still my responsibility. The easement property was mine but I h...

Re: Egyptian Concrete

Ancient Egyptians were big on the afterlife. Pyramids were intended to preserve and protect the bodies inside both here in the material world and in the spiritual world. I've seen some interesting ads selling pyramid tent-like structures for your back yard, or whatever. The idea behind those was att...

Re: Egyptian Concrete

Apparently Mexico and a few other Central American locations have pyramids still standing. There are over 100 in Egypt besides the famous one at Giza. I am not surprised that royalty would have chosen such things in which to be buried, but apparently it was more than a local custom in Egypt. Those p...

That yellow printing of code on each sheet of paper is mandated by law. It's been going on for quite a few years now. The information coded in yellow has at a minimum the model and serial number of the printer, but other information may be included. Anyone who can read the code, which is in binary b...

Re: It's 104℉ Right Now

At one time I came down with Pleurisy. It was as bad, if not worse, as what you describe about those back pains. It hurt simply to breath. The pain did not go away on its own and i had to see a doctor to get x-rays and meds. It was after that episode that I quit smoking pipe tobacco. I sup...
