Re: different strokes...

Judging by what I've been able to read about you, I am older. Also from reading your words for a few years I know that in all my years I did not get involved with half the things that you did. You youngsters have way more energy and drive than us old guys. I don't know what changed in the automobile...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

Getting back to how amazing is Microsoft ... Since I am beta testing Windows, and since their Edge browser was designed to be used Windows 10, and since I am positive that everything I do on my laptop is part of the telemetry Microsoft collects, I decided to use Edge when I browse through Twitter-la...

Re: On Line Shopping

I'm well aware of the markup at various stages of the supply chain. More than likely Jet.Com has a distribution network similar to WalMart and thus can undercut the competition for the same reasons. A lot of the things I order come out of Kansas CIty, but a significant number of items are shipped fr...

Re: different strokes...

I knew a fellow who ran road rallies every weekend. He was pretty much into safety as well as winning races. In the winter he would put rubber tires on his car. Not synthetic rubber tires either. He imported the real thing from some Scandinavian country for a premium price. His traction in snow was ...

Re: different strokes...

I agree with you. The story of you teaching your daughter about front wheel drive is scary. I've been driving all but 16 years of my life and never ran into that situation with either types of drives. I'd think a car that can't handle a hard turn at 30mph would not be street legal. As far as St Loui...

Re: Commodore 64 Mini

That's an interesting video. I love Windows 7 and may never give it up. I've seen gamers set up multiple monitors to accomplish a panoramic view of the game they are playing. The fellow in the video is using a single source to feed those monitors, which is why his mouse can cross over to multi...

Re: On Line Shopping

Jet.Com can be irritating with their method of stocking items. I had to order that half case of pizza sauce because that was the only way the brand and can size could have been obtained from them. Jet.Com did not ship it, but one of their partners did. I had to wait more than a week for it to come f...

On Line Shopping

I do a lot of it. It's not all because it's convenient. Quite a bit of what I buy online simply can't be found here in O'Fallon. Take spatzel, for example. I was able to buy it in one of the stores in town the year we moved in. Once I purchased all they had, they never reordered. So, I found an onl...

Re: Commodore 64 Mini

I'm not all that familiar with Windows 8. I kind of jumped over that disaster and landed right in pits of Windows 10, which they claim is a progeny of Windows 8. In any case I've not read about Windows 8 servers. It's possible in theory, but it must be rare as frog fur. Keep in mind that most comput...

I know exactly why they went to front wheel drive. As far as losing it's grip goes, all I can offer is some first hand experience in Chicago snow. Nothing I ever drove with a differential could get through the deep snow as well as the front wheel drives I had. Most of them were Chrysler products. Fr...

You have my empathy and sympathy. Fortunately I never crash landed in an airplane, but I did have a similar experience on the ground. Me and my entire family were traveling down I55 at about 70mph when some young lady decided I wasn't going fast enough to suit her fancy. She tried to pass me but cut...

I don't have any direct knowledge of Wang, but it was talked about among the engineers I worked with. Apparently it was a preferred system in our group, but it was not blessed by corporate, and more importantly not blessed by the accounting folks. While Wang offered superior service to it's clients,...

The latest release of Ubuntu LTS (18.04) offers background kernel updates direct from the people who maintain it; not from a repository. No reboot is required for these updates. You have to subscribe in order to get this service, which is free. I've never seen or heard of not having to reboot kernel...

I know next to nothing about oil rigs but I can appreciate the power inherent in a bolt of lightning. My buddy was talking about working wells that apparently have some amount of oil near the land surface. I didn't ask for more detail but the vapors (caused by the lightning) from that pool of crude ...

I'll put a spoonful of cream, or milk, into my scrambled eggs along with a shot of Worcestershire sauce. My wife wont eat it, but I have it on good authority that the cream addition makes the eggs cook better. Julia Childs wouldn't lie to me, would she?

The Golden Girls

I loved watching the Golden Girls on television. I'm thinking Betty White was the best of the bunch, but they all were special in some way. Well, apparently, now you can get Golden Girl action figures for a mere $115.00, or thereabouts. for all four. They can also be ordered separately. It's a dream...

I know a fellow who works for an oil company in western Oklahoma. He goes around inspecting the well heads to be sure everything is operating as expected. They just came out of a period where wild fires were rampant and destroying thousands of acres of land. Some of the fires are suspected to be sta...
