Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

I hear ya Yogi! My great-grandmother on my dad's side is who maintained the family records every since they moved here from Germany. She passed all of her work to one of my great-aunts who carried it on further. She was an amazing woman, knew everything in her head. As her anyone's birthday, includi...

Re: Print Question for Yogi

These companies actually shot themselves in the foot as far as I'm concerned. I never buy an extended warranty; I use no interest, no annual fee, cash back credit cards and pay them in full each month, despite the no interest; and of the insurance policies I do have, like homeowners and automobile, ...

Re: Print Question for Yogi

I sometimes pay my credit card with a debit card, but not usually. I don't really like a credit card company having my debit card number. Had a situation a number of years ago where a CC company charged my Debit Card because I was late with a payment. Wasn't even my fault, I made out the check and m...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

I still have thousands that are not yet organized the way I would like. Many group photo's because I don't know everyone in them, and tons I scanned and put into a folder unsorted. Everything takes time, so I do what I can when I can. For each of my cousins, and immediate family, I made a special co...

Re: Print Question for Yogi

Some places have forced us to set up automatic payments or pay extra, or not get a discount, etc. We have a couple of controlled balance debit cards. They have a different account number than our normal debit card, and are not linked back to our actual bank account. Although deposits to the controll...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

Hmm, both my Musetek and Microtex scanners had a raised spot to set the slides over. It had curved internal corners and a lot of my slides were square cornered. But they all came out in perfect focus and for the most part, the color was true. I too used the white box method when I had a slide projec...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

The third large 11x17 flatbed scanner I purchased, not only had an area for 8 Slides at once, but also Negatives from 8mm up to size 620 film. The Negatives area was the full width of the scanner, and backlit. So, if you had an 8mm filmstrip or roll, you could copy 11 inches of it at a time, then st...

Re: Print Question for Yogi

The smallest paper size this printer can handle is 3" x 5", with the 3" end being fed first. But even 3x5 index cards cannot be printed using Landscape mode for some reason. I've tried several programs to print from, but all of them give the same paper jam. I could have ordered business checks, one ...

Re: Print Question for Yogi

The checks fed 3" end in first print perfectly where they are supposed to, but the printer feed system doesn't feed it all the way through the fuser and stops with a PAPER JAM notice. If I pull the check out from the front, I can see it printed perfectly, but only half of it fused the toner to the p...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

Most of the old programs have been replaced with new. It was all the data I had stored on 5-1/4 floppies I worried most about. But I did take the time to move almost all of them over to CDs which I stored, only to find CDs are NOT for permanent storage. A good portion of the CDs I made are no longer...

Re: Laser Printer Revelations

I'm a far cry from being an artist. Before scanners, I used a program like PAINT to redraw images to scale for the projects I worked on. I used a grid method, like a sheet of graph paper. I had several grid sizes printed on clear plastic, one to lay over the image, and one to cover my computer scree...

Re: Laser Printer Revelations

I amassed several proprietary fonts when I was doing advertising brochures. I have the licenses for each, and most of the original fonts are on 5-1/4 floppies which I still have also, because the serial number sticker is on the black jacket. Way back when I was doing pamphlets and brochures, most of...

I thought you were running this website in a Virtual Machine? Maybe I'm thinking of another website? Wish I was smart enough to create a Cluster, hi hi. At my age, and after two heart attacks, I'm just trying to make sure all of my important data is available to read by others on Windows machines. I...

Re: Print Question for Yogi

I tried printing from a Windows XP machine, same document, and had the same problem. It will print a 3x8 in Portrait mode, and feed properly, but not in Landscape mode. The print driver does know I'm feeding the paper in 3" end first. I do have the latest HPLIP drivers for the Linux machine, no new ...

Print Question for Yogi

I have an HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M477fdn printer. Despite all the problems with the first one I had, it was replaced with one that has worked great. A few quirks here and there, but I'm happy with it. I've been using it to cancel business size 3x8 checks fed into the printer in the envelope tray...

I used to have a WindowsXP graphics conversion program that worked perfectly all the time. The program could convert any known image file to any other image file, except vector gr...

Re: Laser Printer Revelations

Font makers have used an embedded code in a couple of letters on their proprietary fonts for years. I found the code on the letter M in a few proprietary fonts printed with a laser. They are on the ink jet also, but much harder to see after you enlarge the printout. So I don't doubt they are hiding ...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

We have numerous PC games for Windows XP, plus my wife has hundreds she bought as on-line access through BigFishGames. Of the ones we have on CD that will no longer work on Windows10, they will still work in Wine on Linux. Plus one other Linux gaming platform I forget the name of off hand. Windows 7...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

I did some calculating a couple of years ago on how much it would cost for me to switch to Windows and buy all the proprietary programs like the Linux ones I use now. It came out close to 6,000 dollars if I recall correctly. Plus a few of the things I do on Linux simply cannot be done on Windows. Tr...

Re: Microsoft Is Amazing

I saw on another website they released an upgrade for Win10 that is supposed to fix a lot of the problems most folks are having with it. Especially those who upgraded from Win7 or Win8 to Win10 and didn't install a fresh version. I know my wife's computer is lower than molasses in the dead of winter...
