Re: The End is Near

I took the computer I bought for Debi to replace her's I burned out the video section in, to see if they could make it run faster. On the phone, the guy said no problem, but after he saw what I bought, he said he can't do much with it. These are custom made for discount stores and they leave a lot o...

Re: And the Scams Go On

Believe it or not, we still have a store down here that sells everything from vinyl to paper music scores. They do have a few vintage 78's but only the collectors titles. I've only been in there a couple of times, but you can buy music to be added to your mp3 players and probably cell phones too. I ...

Re: Ski By Fire

Pella makes great windows, no question about it. However, if a glass gets broken, you cannot just replace the glass, you have to replace the entire window sash. And you are correct about them requiring someone certified by them to do the install. I could get three different qualities of windows, the...

Re: The End is Near

Debi got the Alienware machine greatly used from her son. It is water cooled and sprung a leak, he sent it in for repairs, but bought a new one at the same time. He's a gamer so this machine was hi-end when he bought it ten years ago. The only thing Debi does on it is her webmail and play Farm Town....

Re: Ski By Fire

You would have loved me! I only charged 250 to replace thermal windows, 350 to replace the entire window and frame, and that price included the cost of the normal sized windows. Larger windows only slightly more, whatever extra they charged me. Customer got the receipt for the window so they had it ...

Re: And the Scams Go On

I don't know about the current rates for DJs. But they used to be the same rate as a Jukebox. $75.00 to ASCAP and I believe it was $125.00 to BMI annually. Plus the city/county license stickers which varied considerably. Live bands and orchestra's were a little different, and it was geared to perfor...

Re: The End is Near

Debi's Windows machine, the Windows 7 one she uses since she hated the slow new Windows 10 machine. Whenever we have a power outage, the Windows 7 machine always comes up and says the IP address is in use by another machine and the network doesn't work. If I reboot the router, it seems to get the IP...

Re: And the Scams Go On

Ha ha, they would have to be a member to come in and see if you posted something from their website. And since the site is private per se, you didn't post it to the general public. Then their is the question of whether or not it was theirs, or did it come off the wire. Back when I played music, I ha...

Re: Ski By Fire

You nailed it Yogi. I was repairing proprietary window casings on several condo's, rather than replacing the entire casing as most other contractors did. The inspector gave me a bunch of guff about how I went about doing this, checking his books to see if I was doing some kind of violation of code. ...

Re: The End is Near

It's not that I try to make things not simple, hi hi. I just try to make it work. Like you, my Router reboots itself after the power comes back on. But then there are a couple of Windows computers also on the LAN, and Windows DEMANDS it keeps its old IP Address. It never fails, since Windows is the ...

Re: Ski By Fire

Well, there is one area I can be proud of. I did my work so well, the Realtors called me when they wanted work done at their own house. And so I would would be available to do predication work the week needed, they almost always doubled my normal rate. All of them said I don't charge enough for the ...

Re: And the Scams Go On

I hear ya Yogi! Almost all the wording used in TOS agreements is to protect them, and use us as they see fit. One of the big three TV Syndicates, I think it was CBS, went after WayBackMachine for making copies of their Index page. WayBackMachine won the case. I forget the exact reason, but it had so...

Re: The End is Near

We have a fairly new neighbor who lives across the street and down two houses. I works in IT, but is not really a systems guy as far as equipment installation. I can receive his WiFi router signal at 4 bars of 5. While he can't see mine at all. We have the exact same make and model of router. So he ...

Re: And the Scams Go On

On the bright side, our policy is rock solid now. Each item on it is written in plain language as clear as it can be. I got burned once many years ago on an invention. They changed one word from Pen to Unit, claiming it was so it would cover Pen Barrels too. This was fine until they sold my contract...

Re: Ski By Fire

Between you, me, and the lamp post. We think one of the repair shops we were using was sabotaging cars. We don't have enough proof to go after them, but the evidence from several incidents points directly back at them. After they worked on it one time, the 4-wheel drive wouldn't work. Took it back t...

Re: The End is Near

Hmm, I have Comcast, so can use any Comcast provided Open Modem/Router if it accepts my WiFi password, not mine, but the one provided by Comcast for Open WiFi. Never though using an Open Router, no matter who's it is, would be illegal, since it is Open. But if you have to come up with a password, we...

Re: Ski By Fire

Brokers can mess up, I learned that the hard way, hi hi. I was involved in an accident after just getting my car back from having new metal and rubber brake lines installed. My brakes went out completely, pedal was on the floor, and it was not the master cylinder. An inspection of the car by the sho...

Re: And the Scams Go On

In a small way, I got the last laugh. The amount of the charges for gifts she ordered was under 100 bucks. Insurance paid down the 200 which was on the card already to around 160 bucks when the new charges appeared. So, for only 250 dollars owing and supposed to be covered by the insurance we paid. ...

Re: The End is Near

On the grass OK, but I've always been leery of using Milorganite around edible crops. I'm sure it is safe, but when you consider the source, what if they missed a few amoeba? Wouldn't bother the Japanese, but it could do us in, hi hi. I've seen all kinds of QR codes, some are quite decorative. A cou...

Re: And the Scams Go On

I've been with the same bank now for nearly 40 years. It has changed hands several times during that time. After one of the changes they were a hassle to deal with until they got all their records updated. I kept the convoluted set of tracking numbers on a card in my pocket so the tellers could find...
