Ethernet Card Not Detected in Linux

Hi Yogi I have a real poser this time. A friend gave me his Dell Optiplex 755, it's not a full-size desktop. I think they call it Small Form Factor? About half the size of a normal cabinet. I partitioned the drive and have the original program WindowsXPPro, and added Debian, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu, ...

Re: seriously?

There is also the cost factor as well. I read somewhere that would cost something like 24,000 dollars to maintain and charge an electric car over a 14 year time span. This was with only changing out the battery system twice, not three times, and/or replacing the car with trade-in every 5 years. At t...

Re: seriously?

The only thing misleading about electric vehicles is how much of an impact to the environment making those batteries for them is causing. The emissions from the mining and battery making facilities is enormous. Plus the emissions from the generating plants making the electric to charge them up so of...

Re: seriously?

I don't remember the exact year of her car, somewhere between 1904 and 1916 I think, but my grandfather bought grandmother an electric car. She loved that little runabout. Then grandpa had to go modifying it to get it to go a longer distance. After his modifications, he drove it from St. Louis to Je...

Re: seriously?

I had a friend from skewl who thought electric cars were going to take over back in the '70's. We had two dealers in Kirkwood who were selling them like hot cakes. I even bought one to use around town. He drove 50 miles away from St. Louis, on each major artery and bought or leased land off an exit....

It's probably concrete finished to look like cloth. Can't really tell from the photo though.

Re: seriously?

Up until last year, we still had a couple of full-service gas stations. However, they were 15 cents per gallon higher than the pump-it-yourself pumps.
As far as self-service checkout counters. Unless they give a 10% discount, you are only slave labor, with no benefits or insurance.

Re: Thunderbird and SMTP

I've not lost any e-mails, other than those three days worth, and I talked to everyone who may have sent me something, and they replaced what they sent. I make a daily backup of my mailboxes as soon as I finish responding to all of my e-mail. I only keep 30 days on the Server. Ironic, they had me se...

Re: Thunderbird and SMTP

All Fixed! My accounts were moved to a new secure server. But in the process, they managed to delete my secondary accounts mailbox, but not the link to it, which is why my outbound mail showed it was going out, without giving me an error message. I could NOT simply move my old profile to a new insta...

Re: Thunderbird and SMTP

The odd thing is Yogi, it has worked just fine, then suddenly stopped on Dec 20th. I did learn a couple of things talking to Comcast tech support. They have two separate systems, and I cannot see my secondary account on their web mail system. They say it is because I'm on their POP3, and although I ...

Re: Concrete Mixertruck Cleaning

It does bond and is hard to break up to get out of a mixer. Crawling inside and using a jack-hammer is about the only way to break it all loose. The only real problem we had with build-up was behind the screw blades. And if it got too bad, we had to use the iron blocks bouncing around to knock much ...

Thunderbird and SMTP

Comcast must be fiddling with the knobs again. Our e-mail quit working, both in and out. Now the in is intermittent, and the out is still dead. I made a few changes in the settings, using different ports they suggested. At least now I can send from one account, but not the other, which is strange, s...

Re: Concrete Mixertruck Cleaning

Well their sorta is Yogi. The cement part of concrete is the glue that bonds with the aggregate.
The cement also hardens as it cures. A little lime added to the mix makes it set faster.
Cement by itself isn't very strong at all. Cement and Sand make Mortar, add gravel and you have Concrete.

Re: 12 Black Dots

Nam was green camouflage, Desert Storm was beige camouflage.
I never saw any of the overhead netting they used, so don't know if it had the same properties as those used in Korea.

Re: Concrete Mixertruck Cleaning

Oh heck no, OSHA would shut them down in an instant. The aggregate is screened, washed, dried, and reused. The water left over is filtered and the limestone wet powdery goo from the process gets added to the next batch. The wastewater is fairly clear and used in the next batch also. The only time wa...

And thanks for these memories, the night that I got home, and you were not alone, you said he was a nudist who came in to use the phone. Ahh, it's Christmas... Reminds me of my poor old uncle Harold. Re: 12 Black Dots

There's more to camouflage net than what meets the eye. One almost cannot focus on it from the sky.
It does more than just make it look like natural ground cover, it also has illusionary aspects.
I don't know about later years, but it was used extensively during the Korean War.
