Re: The End is Near

The article I quote also mentions that Windows 7 is being run in 33 percent of the computers. Windows 10 has a 37% share. That leaves 30% running some unspecified version of Windows. I was amazed at the statistics and somewhat encouraged. It tells me that a lot of people out there are running out da...

Re: Good Vibrations

I understand there are people living in this country who work every day towards destroying the system. Those who elected the current president to do exactly that should be proud of him. If that is truly the will of the people then so be it. But if it is intervention by a foreign government, that is ...

Re: Merry Christmas!

I have my eye on a Bentley Mulsanne as one of my first purchases when I win the Power Ball lottery. It seems that it's all wheel drive but mostly rear wheel driven. It automatically engages the front wheels when needed. I might have to change my thinking about rear wheel drives to appreciate this, b...

Re: Ski By Fire

Magnesium flares will burn a hole right through your arm so that I can understand why this guy with the drone was carted off. It was just a dumb move regardless of the legalities.

I never attempted skiing but always admired it from a distance. The video is totally awesome.

The End is Near

Mainstream support for Windows 7 stopped four years ago, in January 2015, with the operating system shifted to extended support for the next five years. Extended support means that users have continued to receive security updates and bug fixes, but no new features. However, after 14 January 2020, s...

Re: Merry Christmas!

I still don't see your granddaughter driving one of these cars on your list, but I don't know her. Maybe she would. LOL
Thanks for the link. It looks pretty interesting.

Re: Good Vibrations

Today's problem is not Hillary Clinton or the Democratic party. Today a RINO (Republican In Name Only), Donald Trump, is the president. We should be focusing on him and not what might have been with his opponent. Pointing the finger at somebody else's misdeeds does not justify the behavior of the cu...

Re: Good Vibrations

I think we are going to find out soon exactly how social engineering works. It's a science perfected by the Russians and was developed in such places as Facebook - one of the reasons I don't like that place. I knew about the technique many years ago when Facebook was outed experimenting with the ads...

Re: Merry Christmas!

Front wheel drive vs rear wheel drive is a theory vs practice argument. The two don't necessarily yield identical results. The reason for that is not that the laws of physics fail. The greatest variable, and hazard, is the pilot in the cockpit using human judgement. We can't ignore statistics and ra...

Re: Merry Christmas!

I know that when I bought the Fiesta there were a lot of rumors going around about the hazards of front wheel drive. As you point out the driving techniques could be slightly different, but who would instinctively think to accelerate in a skid rather than brake? Icy hills are a challenge to navigate...

Re: Merry Christmas!

One of the first automobiles to hit the American market with front wheel drive was the Ford Fiesta. It was actually imported from the UK and reworked to meet American safety and pollution standards. I ordered a shop manual for it and it came from England. If you don't recall, the Ford Fiesta was a s...

Re: Merry Christmas!

You make my tired old brain try to recall my high school physics lessons. It's not such a bad thing but it happened so long aga that I can't remember all the details. Regarding hot air, I do recall that the atoms of the gasses are spaced further apart as the ambient temperature increases. ...

Re: Merry Christmas!

I find it hard to believe that tires filled with nitrogen will not increase in pressure when they get hot from driving on the road. It's a gas after all and expands like any other gas when the heat gets turned up. As far as osmosis into the rubber goes, that's very believable. I've had nearly no pro...

Re: Remembering Icey

I was very fond of your mom, and I don't know who to be tactful and say it diplomatically, but, Icey was very inept when it came to dealing with anything on her computer. She told me several times that she was terrified when she had to use one. Something simple as copy-and-paste challenged her inner...

Re: Microsoft Linux Distro

At one point in the past I read some interesting articles about how the entire planet full of people is no more than six degrees of separation from each other. Finding somebody that knows a celebrity such as the president is only three steps away on average. The implication is that I can get a line ...

Re: Merry Christmas!

There is only one deal I regret not having here which I did have up north. It involved the tires on my car. I favored a Goodyear shop because I trusted the brand more than the others. One time I went there for service and they suggested I fill the tires with nitrogen. Why nitrogen, I asked. The theo...

Re: Remembering Icey

The long and the short of it is that Icey did not say much about her private life and family, including you Connor. I"m not sure I even knew your name until you signed on board one day. Whenever something that could involve her family came up (with me at least), it generally was concerning computers...

Re: Microsoft Linux Distro

Twitter is not what it started out to be. It's now a marketing tool more than anything else. They have a kind of rank/order on Twitter which ends up as an influence factor. That influence is enhanced when you follow back people. In fact I'm sure you can get software to automate the process. I don't ...

Re: Merry Christmas!

Certainly part of the problem with relocating some distance from your home has to do with a lack of familiarity of products and services. I'm still learning where things are here in and around O'Fallon but the process is long and drawn out. The reason for that is I don't have many needs. When I do n...
